PALM SUNDAY OF THE PASSION OF THE LORD (YEAR C)
GOD’S WORD FOR US TODAY
Reading 1: Is 50: 4-7 (I know I shall not be shamed)
This passage is about God’s suffering servant. It reflects for us how Jesus lived out his patient trust in God. It can help and enable us to bear our trials and difficulties.
Resp. Ps. (21): My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?
Reading 2: Phil 2: 6-11(He emptied himself, taking the form of a servant)
Another illustration of who God is: someone who lived among us, and was unjustly condemned to death for the reasons identified below in the Gospel. But his death was not in vain!
Gospel Acc: Christ was humbler yet, even to accepting death on a cross. Christ was humbler yet. But God raised him high, but God raised him high and gave him the name which is above all names.
Gospel : Lk 22:14 – 23:56 (The passion of Jesus)
This is what happened to Jesus who did nothing but love and forgive people, making them feel welcome in God’s kingdom. His goodness and passion for justice and forgiveness were a threat to the religious and political authorities. Listen to the narrative. How does it touch you?

PRAYER for PEACE BETWEEN RUSSIA and UKRAINE
O Prince of Peace, once more we hear the guns of war and see the faces of frightened children. We pray for the people of Ukraine, that they may be granted peace; for the people of Russia, that they may demand peace; and for our own country, that we may be a positive part of peace-making in this world. O Prince of Peace, lead us from this dark time to a deeper understanding of the global human family, so that all may break bread together in the secure embrace of peace. Amen.

OTHER
RIGHT TO LIFE, UK: Prayer During Holy Week
This week’s prayer: “As we enter into Holy Week and reflect on Jesus’ passion, we pray for those experiencing their own passion. We remember in particular women with an unexpected pregnancy in a society that often encourages abortion: May they may feel love and support from their families, neighbours and church communities. May they find peace in their circumstances and joy in the new life that they carry.”

Jesus calls us his friends. During this last week of his life, let’s accompany him as his friend.
Today we see how fickle we can be as human beings. Try to be with Jesus as he experiences the pain of being let down by his people. What did you do when the crowd called for his crucifixion?
Be at the Last Supper with Jesus as his friend. Watch him bless the bread, say the words “This is my body, broken for you.,” and then offer the broken bread to you, saying, “Do this in memory of me.” He then washes your feet. What’s going on in your mind and heart as all of this happens? Share it with Jesus.
Stay close to Jesus on his journey to Calvary and then burial. Which part of that journey touches you most? Mull it over in your mind. Jesus suffers in all suffering people. Pray for them, especially the people of Ukraine.
Jesus is in the tomb, his suffering finally over. What do you feel for him? Be with Mary, his mother, and with the disciples who probably gathered together in mutual support. What do you feel for them?
At the Easter Vigil we celebrate the wonderful story of God’s action for his people, from creation through to the resurrection. On Easter Sunday go with the women to the tomb—be with them when they discover that the tomb is empty. How do you respond to that news?
