FOURTH SUNDAY OF EASTER, YEAR C
Good Shepherd Sunday: World Day of Prayer for Vocations
GOD’S WORD FOR US TODAY
Reading 1: Acts 13:14,43-52 (Almost the whole town assembled to hear the word of God)
When the apostles begin to spread the Good News beyond Palestine, they go first to the Jewish communities. Some welcome their message, while others reject it. But hundreds of non-Jews welcome it with open arms.
Resp. Ps. (99): Hymn Book, No. 406, Refrain.
Reading 2: Rev 7:9,14-17 (The Lamb will be their shepherd and lead them to springs of living water)
In his vision of heaven, John sees a countless number of people who, like Jesus the slain Lamb, were persecuted for their beliefs. Also like Jesus, and wearing white robes, like the white baptismal robe, they are now enjoying the fullness of eternal life in heaven.
Gospel Acc: Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia.
I am the good shepherd, says the Lord; I know my own sheep and my own know me. Alleluia . . . . . . .
Gospel : Jn 10:27-30 (I give eternal life to the sheep that follow me)
Jesus describes himself as a shepherd who, like all shepherds, knows each sheep by name and takes care of their every need, including going in search of them, should they be lost. So close is the relationship that the sheep know and respond to his voice. Reflect: What does this image say to you about Jesus and his relationship with us?

ARCHDIOCESE
WORLD DAY OF PRAYER FOR VOCATIONS
(www,priestsforscotland.org.uk)
Today we pray for the priests needed to serve the Church in the future, and for our present priests. Those who wish to discern a call to the diocesan priesthood should consult the Priests for Scotland Website or their Facebook page. Those discerning a vocation to religious life, men or women, may find help on the Vocation Network Scotland Facebook page, and on the website: www.mewise.org/
textbook/discernment-of-religious-vocation. Perhaps we can all pray today for those discerning a vocation.
God our Father, You have gifted each one of us, and call us to use these gifts in the Body of Christ. We ask that You inspire young people whom you call to priesthood and consecrated life to courageously follow Your will. Send workers into Your great harvest,
so that the Gospel is preached, the poor are served with love, the suffering are comforted, and Your people are strengthened by the sacraments. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen
BRECBANNOCH PILGRIMAGE:
The first Brecbannoch Pilgrimage, a 50-mile walk from Oban to Iona, and dedicated to prayer for the renewal of faith in Scotland, will take place 11-13 June 2022. We will carry with us relics of Saints Columba, Andrew and Margaret, asking their protection over the Church in Scotland. Sign up at: www.brecbannoch.org/sign-up
RADIO ALBA SCOTLAND (www.radioalba.org)
Radio Alba is a Christian internet radio station, sponsored by Glasgow Churches Together, by the music committee of the Archdiocese of Glasgow, and by ACTS. It is a real service to the community, especially to those who may be housebound.
It provides a variety of Christian material: Prayer at different points in the day; news from Christian sources like SCIAF, Flourish, Mary’s Meals, Justice and Peace Scotland; input to help us get the most from Sunday’s Liturgy of the Word, and to help deepen our faith; discussions; music etc. The daily schedule is on the website, and you can listen on your PC, tablet or mobile phone. Apps are available from Google Store, etc.

PARISH
FIRST COMMUNIONS
Let us pray for the children who make their First Holy Communion on May 14th and May 21st, and for their families who support them in their journey towards full membership of the Church here in the parish of St. Jude and St. John Ogilvie.
BAPTISM CLASSES
Baptism classes continue on Wednesday, May 11th and 18th in the parish hall.
CHILDREN’S LITURGY OF THE WORD
We welcome to Children’s Liturgy of the Word all children, especially those in Sacramental Preparation Programmes this year.
THE SICK AND DECEASED
We continue to pray for the sick members of our parish that God will grant them strength and peace; and for those who have died, that God will bring them to the fullness of eternal life.
PRAYER for PEACE BETWEEN RUSSIA and UKRAINE
O Prince of Peace, once more we hear the guns of war and see the faces of frightened children. We pray for the people of Ukraine, that they may be granted peace; for the people of Russia, that they may demand peace; and for our own country, that we may be a positive part of peace-making in this world. O Prince of Peace, lead us from this dark time to a deeper understanding of the global human family, so that all may break bread together in the secure embrace of peace. Amen.
FEAST OF THE WEEK
Friday, May 13th: Our Lady of Fatima.
On this date in 1917 Our Lady appeared for the first time to three children in Fatima. She asked them to pray for sinners and for an end to WW1. In her final appearance on Oct 13th she identified herself as Our Lady of the Rosary, and called for prayer and conversion. Perhaps during May we can say a decade of the rosary each day, asking for an end to the current wars in our world in Ukraine, Afghanistan, Syria, South Sudan, Yemen and Iraq; and for an end to the ongoing conflict which is an aftermath of war in Somalia, Kenya, Iraq, Darfur, Nigeria-Cameroon-Niger-Chad, where Boko Haram is still active.

PRAY IN MAY: MARY’S MEALS
See: www.marysmeals.org.uk/prayinmay
Following the request by Mary’s Meals in last week’s bulletin for prayer throughout May to support its work, we include the prayer below:
Mary, our Mother, we entrust you to intercede for this work carried out in your name:
- that children throughout the world will see their lives transformed through the promise of a daily meal at school;
- that our volunteers across the globe on whom this work depends will be filled with hope and strength;
- and that new seeds of possibility will be planted, and more people will discover their place in the Mary’s Meals family.
