FOURTH SUNDAY OF THE YEAR (C)
GOD’S WORD FOR US TODAY
Reading 1: Jeremiah 1: 4-5, 17-19 (Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you)Prophets have a difficult task, because people don’t like to hear the truth, when it is not good. Here God reassures Jeremiah that he will never abandon him. After all, he has known him since before he was conceived.
Reflect: God says to us exactly what he says to Jeremiah: ‘Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you.’ Imagine God saying this to you. How does it feel?
Resp to Psalm (70): My lips will proclaim your help.
Reading 2: 1 Cor 12: 31—13: 13 (The Wonderful Gift of Love)
People often choose this hymn to love for their wedding Mass, a sign that they are drawn to it as a way to live their life. As you listen to the reading today, identify those aspects of love that attract you and that you show in your life. Thank God for those gifts.
Gospel Acc: Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia! I am the Way, the Truth and the Life. No one can come to the Father except through me. Alleluia . . . .
Gospel : Lk 4: 21-30 (The people don’t like being challenged by Jesus who remains firm)
Jesus faces rejection, because the people feel threatened by his challenge. But, like Jeremiah, he remains firm: God’s message must be shared, however unwelcome it may be. Jesus was not trying to be popular: He was trying to live by love for everyone, even those whom others thought unacceptable.
Reflect: Where do you find strength and support to do what you know is right when others disapprove? Have you ever thought that that strength and support is God working in you or supporting you through others?

FROM THE PARISH
CHILDREN and the LITURGY
All children registered for this year’s sacramental preparation programme have received a Mass booklet to help them become familiar with the structure and prayers of the Mass. WE ASK PARENTS TO HELP CHILDREN USE THE BOOKLETS when they return from Children’s Liturgy of the Word. Thank you.
THE SICK and DECEASED
We continue to pray for our sick and housebound parishioners, relatives and friends. We also remember those who have died recently: John Paul McAlear, Frances Burns, Brian Martin, Gerry McFadden, Jimmy Hutchison, James Alexander and Colleen Daly; and those whose anniversaries occur at this time: Lily McColgin and Joe Reilly. May they rest in peace and rise in glory.
COVID and SOCIAL DISTANCING
Social distancing is now no longer required for Church gatherings. It is still essential, however, to provide track and trace details, to sanitise hands on entering and leaving Church, and to wear face masks. Please arrive in Church in adequate time for track and trace information to be taken by the stewards before Mass begins. Thank you.
FROM THE DEANERY: SYNOD of the CHURCH
JUST BEFORE HE DIED, Jesus prayed that his followers would be united—That they all may be one— that they would live in communion with one another. He also gave them a mission to spread the Good News to all people without distinction throughout the world. And, he envisaged a Church in which everyone would be welcome, would be equally valued, would have an active role to play and would feel at home.
POPE FRANCIS is asking all members of the Church to reflect together on the above points. He is inviting all to let their voices be heard and to dream about how we can become the Church that Jesus envisaged. This shared journey is called a synodal journey. It will be a journey of prayer, reflection and sharing on the above areas of the life of the Church: its unity, its mission to all people, and its inclusion of everyone in the way it organises itself. This is being organised at a deanery level. Once the dates for parish meetings are agreed by the Parish Priests, they will be announced in each parish. So, watch this space!!
