CIRCLE OF FRIENDS

The Circle of Friends is the Parish arm of the support network involved in the all-round education of the child. While we maintain that the parents are the first and foremost educators of their child, particularly in their faith development, the Catholic School and the Parish Community have the privilege and responsibility of supporting the parents in their role as educators and nurturing the growing faith of the child.  The parish community’s support is ongoing from the day of Baptism but it becomes more specific as the children prepare to become full members of the church family by receiving the Sacraments of Reconciliation, Confirmation and Eucharist.

Although the catechesis or religious instruction is carried out in school the children are invited to take part in our parish Circle of Friends which is an informal class convened for a month or so prior to the reception of each sacrament.

In this class emphasis is put on their belonging to a particular faith community – namely the parish of St Jude’s. They are encouraged to see their full membership of the church as being active members of the parish. They are introduced to members of the parish who talk to the children about their role in the community. Against this backdrop of parish membership the parish catechists re-emphasise the teaching carried out in school.

GARDEN MAINTENANCE

At the present time we have one dedicated parishioner who tends to the grounds of the church and house, this creates a welcoming presence for people visiting our church and everyone likes to see the greens mown and gardens tended, extra hands are urgently needed, there is no set time, you can come and work when suits you, please contact the Priest if you can spare some time.

Do you have a trade? For example, plumber, electrician, glazier, painter or joiner? Or are you just good at DIY? Would you be willing to give thanks to the Lord for the skills he has given you by serving the church? There are always things needing done around the church, odd jobs that require attention, upgrading work etc. We always need volunteers who can be called upon to help out when required. Please contact the Priest if you can assist the parish in this vital role.

PARISH HALL

St Jude’s parish hall is a small but well used resource in the parish. It can be hired for private use for most functions and events from children’s birthday parties, christening celebrations, first communion and confirmation celebrations to funeral lunches . The charge for the hall will depend on the number of hours required. The hall can accommodate 40 people. Food preparation and cooking facilities are very limited. For any enquiries about booking the hall contact Amelia Buckley on amelia_buckley@yahoo.co.uk.

ST JUDE LOURDES PILGRIMAGE

St Jude’s Lourdes Pilgrimage was started by parishioners in 1987, making their first pilgrimage in 1988. They have visited the shrine in Lourdes many times and have enabled over 1,000 pilgrims young and old, healthy and not so healthy, to visit Our lady’s shrine and take part in the various liturgies and celebrations that take place while in Lourdes. This has brought many blessing to the individuals and the parish as a whole. The Pilgrimage is open to persons from all over Scotland, UK and we have even had pilgrims joining us from other countries. If you wish to have further information please contact Margaret McElroy or any of the other organisers listed below.

The café is open every Sunday after the 10am mass.  The café provides an opportunity to meet with your fellow parishioners.

All the tea, coffee and sugar used at the café is fairtrade, the whole parish has been fairtrade since September 2006

Would your parish group would like to take a turn of running the café? It is an ideal opportunity to raise awareness of your group and also raise some funds or if you want to help out as an individual there is always space on the Sunday café team. Contact Margaret McElroy at the 10am Sunday mass or pop into the café or e-mail Margaret at margaret.mcelroy2@ntlworld.com
